Does the Progression of Cataract Affect the Success of the Surgery?

Cataract is one of the eye diseases that cause vision loss caused by the opacity of the transparent lens of the eye. Surgical intervention is the definitive and effective solution for cataract. Of course, as in many other operations, there are some factors that affect the recovery time in cataract surgery and directly affect the success of the surgery. We can show the progression of the disease as one of these factors. So how much effect does the progression of the disease have on the success of the operation?

The Relationship Between Cataract Progression and Operation Success

Let us say at the beginning what we will say at the end. The fact that cataract is advanced does not mean that the treatment of the disease will be unsuccessful. The advanced stage of the disease means that the lens of the eye becomes more dull.

As the lens of the eye hardens, it becomes more difficult to remove the lens and the operation is performed with a slightly more challenging process.

In order to remove the dull lens in the eye, more effort will be made and more time should be spent.

This may prolong the duration of the operation as well as the recovery period of the eye. Since more time will be needed for the eye to recover, we say that the healing process will be a little longer.

Of course, it should not be forgotten that the doctor’s experience is also very important here. Because an experienced doctor will know better how to intervene in which situation, and can ensure that the process is more favourable for the patient.
