Does Night Vision Change After Laser?

Laser eye surgery is one of the preferred effective treatments for refractive errors that affect vision. The fact that the results are effective makes patients generally turn to this treatment. However, as in every surgical operation, there may be some side effects or postoperative complications in laser surgery. There may also be some points that patients are concerned about due to hearsay information. Night vision problems after laser surgery are among these points that cause confusion.

In this article, we will talk about what kind of change occurs in night vision and what are the points where patients hesitate.

Is There a Night Vision Problem After Laser?

When answering this question, we need to start by explaining the functioning of our eyes. During the daytime, when the light is intense in our eyes, our pupil shrinks.

At night, since there is less light, growth begins to occur in the pupil. The pupil enlarges and thus more light is collected and vision is obtained.

The main reason for night vision problems after laser eye surgery is that the pupil, which grows at night, extends beyond the laser area. In this case, fluctuations or glare may occur in vision.

Yes, such a side effect is very unlikely, but it is possible. However, with the effect of new generation technologies, the possibility of this side effect has been minimised.

All measurements are made on the eye before the operation. Laser limits are determined with detailed measurements such as dark room measurements. Thus, the risk is minimised and night vision problems after laser are largely prevented.
